Yes to God’s Design for Marriage
It’s funny how the people closest to you can see love forming before you ever recognize it. My best friend saw James’s devotion long before I did once James stayed in the ER with her, refusing to leave her alone, even though he only knew her name.
There was always something about the way James looked at me.
Something that felt good, sincere - something that felt like home. It was then I suddenly realized - maybe love had been there all along. Maybe I had just been too guarded to see it.
Love doesn’t always arrive with grand gestures. Sometimes it arrives quietly through consistency, loyalty, gentleness, and a steady presence that you didn’t realize had become essential to your life.
I believe God's design for love is similar to how he created sunrises. The sun reveals itself slowly at first, then suddenly everything is flooded with light. The sunrise is like a glimpse at greatness, followed by the fulfillment of God's promise.
Our love story was a whirlwind that wasn’t chaotic all all. In fact, I would describe our whirlwind as peaceful.
We weren’t rushing into marriage but were stepping into our destiny. But the reality was, we both knew the pain of failed relationships as well. Yes, we were comfortable with one another because of our friendship, but we both felt like we lost that closeness during our first year of marriage.
We had one question: Since we had demonstrated great acceptance and belonging of each other as friends, why were we failing so badly in our marriage?
This is where God's design became our story. Honestly, I considered divorce. Then James and I decided to take divorce off the table and to approach marriage differently. We sought God. In faith, we became connected to other couples who poured into our marriage in such a way that we are still reaping the benefits. So much to share concerning finding a community of believers who live their lives to the glory of God in such a way that Romans 8:28 becomes the overflow blessing of good in your own testimony. As a result, you also want to share the God's love to pay it forward. Shouts out to a few notable couples who were there in the beginning, like The Angels, the Johnsons, the Rudds, and the Youngs, just to name a few. Shouts out to Latoya who advised me to trust God and try His way instead of ending my marriage.
Look at us now. I'm so thankful for everyone God placed in our lives regardless to what stage they joined our journey. We asked ourselves often, what is happening to us? Had we made a mistake?
